Thinking Outside the Box

Working Youth

Working Youth

Jennifer Corriero, 22, attends university classes at night because she is too busy to attend in the daytime. Co-founder and executive director of the web site TakingITGlobal a company which encourages young people to get involved in helping businesses and organizations stay ahead of the innovation curve. The company has members in 200 countries and the web site employs thirteen people and gets 2.5 million hits each week.

Last year, Corriero was the youngest of 100 people recognized as a Global Leader for Tomorrow by the World Economic Forum, an organization of international corporate leaders.

She believes that, given the needs of the information age for people who think differently and creatively, this job description is tailor-made for young people. Most, however, still think they need to have a lot of money or a powerful job to affect change and she is determined to convince them otherwise.

Institutions need to see young people as a source of creativity, innovation and as part of the solution, but young people also need to see that in themselves for the shift to take place.
